From martinsays.com: ATTN. BELOVED READERS OF MARTINSAYS.COM:

so i typed up my most recent entry into my phone on the plane this morning with some serious haste while being overly nagged by 2 different flight attendants to “turn off all my electronic devices.” …so if you already read it, it’s now edited and i added quite a bit…but you don’t have to re-read if you don’t wanna read me preach about positive human interaction and frequent misconceptions.

my new boy sir kingston and i share bling.

last night sean and i (you know what? i hate those type proper english ways to word things. screw it. let’s start this fresh.) last night me and sean went live on twitter from his hotel room and my ass got handed to me in a freestyle battle. he put me in my place—in a giant jamaican pipe and smoked. burnt! if you didn’t see it, you missed out. last night taught me a lot about preconceived notions. i had heard that sean was a dickhead, and admittedly expected it myself. we had done shows before, but never got a chance to really even meet. i guess when you see a dude with an entourage and some seriously huge dudes rolling around wearing chains worth more than a car, you assume there are egos involved. wrong. great hang. good people. i suppose if your accessing someone who lives in the spotlight it’s more interesting/fun to talk trash rather than saying ” what a great guy!” …i get pretty hurt when I hear talk of me being cocky or mean. i am so humbled by the fact that we get the chance to do what we love, humbled by the fact that people listen, and i can’t wait to start this cycle. i feel reborn in a sense. i guess sometimes you need a good hang, a few laughs, and some real personal time to judge someone’s personality. it’s time put everyone on the same playing field and not let rushed first impressions influence my judgement. you guys should try that too. who knows? maybe good karma will come creepin and someone will give YOU the benefit of the doubt ;).

i’m stoked to have a new friend. it’s ON this christmas at the big radio shows. this time i’ll be bringing along my A game freestyle instead of my Z game. rematch.

quote of the day:
“collaboration coming on love drunk remix! kingston! boys like girls! get ready you know how we do! WAT A GWAAN!”

From martinsays.com: getting pretty for hot topic.  flying out tomorrow...

getting pretty for hot topic.

flying out tomorrow to oklahoma at 7:30am. had a nice day with the doc, picked up a new watch cause i obviously lost my old one, got introduced and had some great hang time with joey kramer from aerosmith (check the twitter pic!) and went out and bought his book. stoked to check it out. it seems like a heavy read. finally got a new batphone…and then immediately set my old blackberry bold on fire, threw it off a cliff, climbed down and stomped on it. then i spit on it. then i went and ate a feast in celebration of it’s demise.

…now i’m sitting here and i can’t figure out my new phone. FML.

BOYS LIKE GIRLS: back in the van.

video blog includes acoustic performances…including a sneak at a new song, typical blg shenanagans, a live radio interview and more…press play.

what a great little acoustic run. had so much fun riding in the van and hanging out at some of our favorite radio stations, seeing some of our most beloved fans and meeting some amazing new ones. i’m really starting to have fun editing videos…so if you like the updates, lucky you. more to come.

From martinsays.com: tyson, oh how i’ve missed thee. it’s pretty surreal...

tyson, oh how i’ve missed thee.

it’s pretty surreal meeting up with a band that embraced you and took you out on tour when you were still in diapers…so green and scared of it all, here, in malaysia, on the other side of the world, getting ready to share a stage again, and realizing that nothing’s changed. maybe there are new records out or coming out, maybe some have different haircuts, new clothes, new tattoos, been through different life experiences…but nothing has changed. today it was as if no time has passed. almost 3 years ago, on the first day of the AAR tornado tour, i was terrified. of the huge crowd, of every move i made or word i spoke, trying so hard to not rub anyone the wrong way, scared of tyson walking around with his shirt off like he owned the place, cracking jokes to crew and stagehands, completely relaxed and in his element, controlling the room. eventually, you start to realize how normal everyone is. people in the spotlight can be intimidating, but they are all just regular people…going about their lives, living it day by day. just like anyone else. sure there might be camera flashes, fast paced insanity and extra attention, but for the most part thats just the exterior.

sometimes i need to step back to realize how many people have affected me, inspired me, and helped me grow the confidence i need to get through this crazy lifestyle. we’re playing in front of 15,000 people in a few hours, in a country we’ve never even been to. i’ve been feeling very blessed lately. at peace with myself and with the world around me. slightly spiritual. humbled.

From martinsays.com: my band likes to beat me during asian photoshoots. no, i’m...

my band likes to beat me during asian photoshoots. no, i’m not wearing eyeliner. no, i’m not kidding. stoked to see how these turn out on the real camera.

malaysia is crazy. loving it. we have been running around like chickens with our heads cut off for last 2 days. so much press, meeters and greeters, photoshoots, album listening parties, etc. can’t wait to play world stage in a few days. gonna be a wild show. everyone has been so nice to us, and this hotel resort thingy is a damn palace. i look around, and i feel almost uncomfortable in my surroundings. like i’m living someone else’s life. i guess i still can’t shake the smelly motel 6’s and econo lodges out of my system. that’s probably a good thing. i never want to get used to “it.” i wanna stay hungry like the wolf forever. i like the reel big fish cover of that song. go download that.

picked up those new mike dirnt macbeths and some other cool new duds. i was overdue for some new threads…i see pics online and it looks like i never change my clothes. then i realize that i don’t. yeah.

so i guess i should be feeling a ton of anxiety for this new record coming out, but i just feel so pumped up. finally we get to play some new tunes live, and show the world that we ain’t no one trick pony. i don’t really care about numbers and figures, reviews, or any of that stuff this time around. i just want people to feel as passionate about this record as we do.

my new tats are healing and my sunburn is fading and peeling, so i am going through the itchiest few days of my life. i gots the permanent heebee jeebies. i’m like a cat, i rub my back up on every wall and scratch it out.

i looked down today as i was tweeting on my phone and to the left i spot my twitter sucks wristband, proudly hanging off my wrist. i think need a quick weekend in the insane asylum.

we saw a little kid dancing and hopping around the mall last night, happy as a clam, and captain was talking about how children don’t care at all what people think. there is so much beauty in that. absolute freedom of the mind. i wish we could all dance around malls, play make-believe hopscotch in the middle of the street and talk to ourselves in public. too bad everyone grows up and becomes an insecure mess.

From martinsays.com: SPAM ENTRY: READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

so check it out. malaysia is sweet, but i’ll talk about that later. right now i got a bunch of BLG stuff to ramble about. here goes:

in case you’ve been living under a rock, our new record LOVE DRUNK comes out on september 8th. that’s less than a month away. mark you’re calendar. nevermind, you don’t have one…so…set an alarm on your cell phone so you don’t blow it.

were hawking off some pretty dope pre-order bundles for the new record. all exclusive shirts, posters, bags, wristbands, downloads, etc…CLICK HERE and go check it out. if you’re gonna buy it anyway, might as well get some sweet stuff to go with it.

ITUNES USERS: no, we didn’t leave you out. we have a special pre-order deal available starting TODAY, which get’s you “she’s got a boyfriend now” right away. like…this second. also, only people who pre-order get the “making of love drunk-the album” documentary video. um, go make moves.

every album has a tracklist. every tracklisting exists before the record is in stores. here’s ours:

BOYS LIKE  GIRLS - LOVE DRUNK

From martinsays.com: seven hours later...

and 3 new tattoos.
big thanks to hiro, (the artist), who killed it tonight.

 1. “LOVE” in traditional japanese brushstroke. after i had our label rep draw the symbol in sharpe on my hand today, i fell so in love with it, (no pun intended), that i HAD to get it tattooed. stoked to get the real deal in the real country.

2. the entire first verse to “amazing grace” across the center of my back. hiro told me i was mentally insane for inking this over my sunburn, but it was worth the pain. i’ve been wanting this tat for a few years…and tonight it just felt right, burt or not. yes. i screamed like a baby. especially when the needle hit my spine.

3. i have hand-drawn this little star all over everything since elementary school. at some point 2 years ago, it even snuck it’s way into my autograph. i must have drawn 100 out before i got the perfect one to ink up. well…now i have a hand tat. no suit and tie jobs for me! let’s hope BLG keeps kickin till were wrinkled and that tat is faded.

HIRO: the man behind it all, stressin hard and ready to crash after a long day of work.

p.s. if you were wondering about the looks of my elbow above…i fell off the stage the other day and scraped it up. yes, i’m fine, but no i’m not mutated like it looks in that shot.

video of the whole ordeal coming pronto.

FYI: no i am not getting sleeves, neck tattoos, knuckle tattoos, or weird piercings of any kind.  i’m actually gonna take a tattoo break for a little while. i had my fair share tonight. gotta get used to these babies.

From martinsays.com: you can skim it, i wrote this one for my own sanity.

life moves faster than a speeding bullet. i find myself trapped, stuck in a hazy purgatory, not being able to appreciate my surroundings and the blessings that have struck me like lightning because i am so focused on mastering the next move. it’s all about the next move. making it perfect. micromanaging every step, sound, picture, word, note…from the belt i’m wearing, to the guitar i’m playing, to the way i looked at the person at starbucks as i ordered my coffee, and while ordering my coffee, calculating how it will effect my acid reflux and how that will effect my voice for the next 8 hours, to the way i shake the hand of an older man with rough calloused hands, to the way i grab the hands of people in the crowd, to every single lyric i have ever written and sang and how they effect me and how they will affect every listener, to figuring out who i really am other than a guy in a band…micromanaging discovering my own personality and who i’m becoming while growing older in this whirlwind of a traveling circus. constant questions. mostly questions i can’t answer. is this song perfect? am i a good role model? was that show perfect? how can it be better? is the third pick that i throw out tonight going to pass the barricade and leave me enough time to grab another one and make it to the next chord? is this entry too wordy? am i putting myself out there too much? do these sunglasses make me look cocky? every emotion has stacked up from sitting at my desk in high school staring at a sea of numbers and symbols strewn across a chalkboard all the way to staring out into a sea of blurry faces…and here i am, still equally confused. finishing this record and starting this tour has taught me a lot and humbled every bone in my body. who cares if there aren’t sugarfree redbulls in the dressing room? drink a sugared one and get another root canal or chug a water bang my head three times and maybe it’ll wake me up just as good. who cares if we didn’t get a soundcheck? don’t complain. just hit it as hard as you can. every time. who cares if i get a middle seat on a plane, stuck between an overweight man who can’t stop coughing and a older woman who can’t speak english? patience. breathe. this year i want to remove the glue from my shoes and bust out of this dazed mental middle ground. i was numb. now i’m really starting to feel something. i don’t know what it is but it feels good. i’m on my way. meet you there?

“intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.”
-stephen hawking

edit: for those who didn’t skim and don’t speak martinese, i’m not talking about changing my personality. i’m analyzing my mindframe and trying to find what it takes to let myself slow down and take it all in.

bryan was talking about getting a tat of a hula girl riding a scooter today. i think i’m gonna fix up my delivered tat with either old school tattered volume knobs or f holes (the cutout f looking things on hollow body guitars) to cover up the ugly swirly things. still have to get the first verse of amazing grace on my back. i wish i was scuba diving instead of nursing my sunburn. probably going shopping later. they have the best knick knacks around here. can’t wait for that sweet $150 overweight charge on my suitcase from $2 knick knacks. god bless america.
